The SCA Girls' Varsity Basketball team opened the season at Class 3A Fountain Hills on the Tuesday night prior to the Thanksgiving break. Coach Bob Fredericks sent out seniors Jordan McDonald and Hayden Hancock, junior Kathryn Dick, and sophomores Brooke Hancock and Savannah Cardona to start the 2019-2020 campaign, and the Eagles matched the Falcons evenly for the first two quarters.
Shaking off the rust and working their way through the playbook, SCA was led by senior Jordan McDonald converting off a steal, and senior Heather Hancock did good work to score inside. Hayden Hancock and Brooke Hancock also joined in the scoring efforts from open play, while Kathryn Dick demonstrated defensive skills and worked the free throw line.
Sophomore Allyson Lund pitched in with a steal, and sophomore Baylee Tobin and freshmen Ana Faustinos, Daphne Garland and Sophia Lane all had opportunities to show their knowledge of Coach Frederick's game plan. It was not quite enough to defeat a strong Falcons squad, but the Eagles showed a lot of promise in the 21-36 defeat. Join us on Wednesday, December 4 for the JV and varsity home openers against Santa Cruz Valley.
