SCA Wins Inaugural Flag Football Game

Eagles Victorious in First Ever Girls Flag Football Game

A new era in SCA sports began Wednesday when the SCA Girls Flag Football Team took the field against Notre Dame Prep in the first game of its kind in SCA history. Girls flag football launched two years ago as an AIA-sanctioned sport and has grown quickly across the Valley.

SCA's first game couldn't have gone better. "We had a game plan and the girls executed it flawlessly," said Head Coach Ryan Fisher. Jade Pflederer intercepted the first pass by Notre Dame, which set up a touchdown run by quarterback Campbell Reader. Then, late in the first half, Jolee Baddeley pulled down another interception and returned it over 50 yards. Nola Bynum scored on the next play, giving the Eagles a 13-0 lead at the half. Notre Dame couldn't get anything going against the Eagles defense all game, and SCA extended their lead in the 2nd half after another interception from Pflederer and a touchdown by Evin Ott. The Eagles won by a final score of 32-0. "It felt pretty darn good!" said Baddeley, who added, "but, there's also room for improvement."

More than 25 girls came out for flag football this year, so SCA added JV games to the schedule. "I'm thrilled with the turnout," said Fisher. "Some of these girls have never touched a football before but they are picking it up so quick and have great attitudes. We're going to build a great program here at SCA."
